Accidents are common in the industrial working environment since workers usually deal with hazardous elements. These workers encounter heavy machinery, high-voltage electrical equipment, extreme temperature conditions, and chemical ingredients everyday. To minimize the risks of potential hazards, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires all employers to apply safety measures and precautions for the protection of their employees and facilities.
In 2007, the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics reported that 20% of the work-related injuries and accidents were incidents involving contact with floors, walkways, and ground surfaces. Workplace injuries from same-level falls were ranked second as a leading cause of disabling injury. The 2009 Liberty Mutual Workplace Safety Index also showed that a direct cost of $6.2 billion dollars was allotted in workers compensation in 2007.
Since floors, walkways, and ground surfaces are the most common factors in disabling accidents, employers must install additional safety guards to reduce the risk of disabling injuries from falls. Plant safety can be enhanced by using anti-slip flooring and safety mats that help prevent workers and their heavy loads from slipping and falling.
Here are some of the safety equipment for plant safety:
Non-Slip Surfaces - these are mostly protective mats and flooring that secure the workers from different ground hazards. Anti-fatigue mats help lessen the strain on workers' feet, legs and back from prolonged standing. Rubber mats provide a non-slip surface to reduce slips caused by wet floors. Safety mats protect workers from electrical shocks and static build-ups before they operate high-voltage equipment. The anti-slip step covers offers traction for stairs and steps, while the anti-slip ladder rung covers secure ladder footings.
Safety Ramps for Loading and Unloading - loading ramps ease workers' heavy load. Portable dock-plates bridge the gap between loading docks and truck bays. These ramps also prevent back injuries since workers only have to roll hand trucks or wheel carts over the portable dock-plates. Since they are portable, they can be used anywhere and anytime. These are made from high density polyethylene so they are very durable and long-lasting.
Clean Room Mats - these mats are sticky enough to trap dirt, dust and other sediments that can contaminate equipment. They have layers of polyethylene film that can be peeled off after usage. These are used to maintain clean rooms free of any dirty or hazardous particles.
These safety flooring products protect the workers from disabling injuries such as slips and falls. Prioritizing safety for workers in industrial workplaces can save employers from costly damages and liabilities. These do not only prevent accidents but they also help the entire business to provide a more productive and healthy working environment.
