1) How does an anti fatigue mat work?
Ergonomic mats, also called anti fatigue mats are designed to stimulate circulation in feet, legs and lower back. The anti fatigue mats surface profile forces a muscular response that stimulates circulation and lessens fatigue as a person stands or walks on this industrial floor mat surface.
True anti-fatigue mats like the ErgoDeck Interlocking Rubber Mat or the Diamond Plate sponge base floor mat are carefully engineered to provide the optimal balance between compression and resistance. This balance is critical to achieving the appropriate muscle stimulation in an ergonomic anti fatigue solid or drainage mat. Like the suspension of a car, the sponge base or rubber compound of these industrial floor mats, runners and entrance carpets absorb and disperses shock, while also providing the necessary support for stability and fatigue.
2) Why are Anti-fatigue mats important?
There are many types and applications because anti fatigue flooring is designed to provide optimal foot and leg fatigue solutions for specific industries and working conditions. Anti fatigue floor mats provide real, effective solutions to industry specific workplace environments.
Drainage mats provide comfort and reducing fatigue while keeping workers safe in wet workplace environments. Drainage mats are available in a modular interlocking rubber mat and single pieces. Industrial drainage mats allow liquid and debris to flow down beneath the mat and away from workers feet. Constructed of rubber or rubber compounds, drainage matting offers comfort as well as good chemical resistance. Brightly colored beveled edging are available on some products to provide safe movement on and off the mat.
Solid Anti Fatigue Mats are commonly used for industrial, commercial and retail workplaces to reduce fatigue. Interlocking rubber mats, vinyl mats and gym mats provide excellent support, comfort and fatigue properties. Rubber floor mats come in single piece and interlocking mats with optional beveled edging just like the drainage mats. Solid industrial floor matting comes in variety of shapes, sizes and colors, such as the popular diamond-plate anti fatigue floor mats that offer the best comfort. Their sponge base core and diamond pattern rubber surface provide exceptional comfort as well as slip resistance. Industry specific WeldSafe industrial mat is ideal for intense industrial applications such as welding. Other solid mats and indoor commercial matting available are wood and tile vinyl mats. These anti fatigue floor mats provide excellent comfort and a professional woodgrain or tile surface pattern to blend into your hardwood or tile floors.
Specialty rubber matting in the form of conductive mats; protect sensitive equipment from power and electrical surges that can cause damage to expensive equipment. Non-conductive matting, also called switch board mats insulate and protect workers from electrical shock.
Entrance matting also offers a variety of choices. Indoor entrance mats usually are indoor carpet mats that are placed in front of counters, stairwells and inside business entryways, and can be great commercial floor mat solutions. Entrance outdoor mats, sometimes referred to as scraper mats, remove dirt and wetness from shoes before entering the building. Floor mat runners protect floors from heavy foot traffic and combat fatigue. Runner matting and vinyl mat runners are commonly used in hallways and aisleways that encounter heavy pedestrian traffic. Runners are usually mats of 1/8" or 1/4" thick vinyl or rubber and are available in standard widths and custom or roll lengths.
4) What is the difference between polyurethane and rubber mats?
In general our polyurethane mats provide appropriate solutions for dry, non-abrasive to slightly damp or oily environments. Polyurethane mats also have anti-static properties and reduce fatigue.
Nitrile rubber anti-fatigue floor mats have greater heat resistant, anti-abrasion and anti-slip properties for more demanding industrial conditions, such as our WeldSafe mat, which is an industrial floor mat specifically designed for welding. Closed-cell rubber mats resist bacteria, making them ideal for critical environments like medical and food processing facilities. Nitrile rubber mats are more resistant to acidic conditions, (pH < 7) and EPDM rubber performs better in caustic, or basic environments (pH > 7). There are also anti fatigue safety flooring products that come in an ESD version for static sensitive manufacturing environments.
5) Does anti-fatigue ergonomic matting prevent trip and slip hazards?
As mentioned above most anti-fatigue mats, Commercial Floor Mats, Industrial Rubber Floor Mats, Safety Mats and interlocking rubber mats come with beveled edges to prevent tripping and allow for smooth entry and exist from the mat. Anti-fatigue mats offer various surface textures such as Diamond Plate and Gritworks to provide addition traction and helps to avoid injuries from slipping and fatigue.
6) Are Anti Fatigue Mats Easy to clean?
All anti fatigue floor mats can be swept, vacuumed or mopped. Rubber flooring can also be hosed, power-washed or steam cleaned. Drainage Mats are also easily washed with a hose. Ergonomic and Anti-fatigue Mats can be cleaned with a mild soap and water depending on the kinds of fluids coming in contact with the Safety Mats.
