Anti fatigue mats Becoming Popular In The Airline Industry

When you think about airport safety you usually don't think of the surface you are walking on. But airports and airlines around the country have been looking into the many benefits of installing anti fatigue mats and safety mats. Custom-fit mats provide an ergonomic solution that saves money, improves productivity and reduces fatigue and injuries.

Facts About Floor Mats:

An increasing number of airports around the country are installing ergonomic mat products to prevent worker injury and improve productivity. Anti fatigue mats significantly decreases the pain and fatigue associated with standing and walking on hard surfaces.

A University of Pittsburgh research study found that these kinds of mats can reduce fatigue by as much as 50 percent. The Journal of the American Medical Association, documents that most workers stay on the job and become less productive when they suffer from common pain conditions which costs U.S. businesses an estimated $61.2 billion per year.

Standard size, single piece mats have been used behind ticket counters providing relief from standing fatigue. This works fine for the stationary worker but does not adequately cover the entire work space.

Dawg® offers a variety of customizable anti fatigue mats in 75 foot rolls available in a variety of widths providing all day comfort for airline and airport workers. Custom products offer many other options such as beveled edges to avoid trip hazards or high visibility yellow borders for optimal mat safety. True custom cut matting is also available upon request to create a custom fit safety mat.

Anti fatigue mats are a popular ergonomic solution used in the design of custom mat safety flooring systems to reduce fatigue in standing workers. These products are currently being used in more than 30 airports as well as most airlines around the country.

How these mats work:

They are quite effective and becoming more readily used among standing and kneeling workers at airports and airlines. They are specifically designed to stimulate circulation in legs, feet and the lower back. The surface profile in the safety matting forces a muscular response that increases circulation while lessening fatigue.

They provide cushion comfort and a sturdy walking and standing surface. Safety mats provide a balance of comfort and stability that reduces foot and leg fatigue. Anti fatigue mats are very effective for standing workers in airport, assembly, laboratories, manufacturing, post office, warehouse and retail environments. In airports, they are typically used behind ticket counters, in conveyer and baggage service areas and at check-in and security gates.

Other types are used for entrance ways. Entrance safety mats that scrape off snow and debris are used outside airport entrances, while indoor carpet mats are used just inside the doors to absorb any wetness left on shoes. Indoor and outdoor entrance safety mats are an economical and effective way to minimize slip and trip hazards.

Mat Safety Benefits:

Anti fatigue mats enables workers to be more productive by reducing their pain associated with standing, walking or kneeling for long periods of time. These floor safety mats improve overall safety in the workplace by eliminating potential hazards. Soft cushion comfort of anti fatigue mats provides better protection for workers who fall, reducing the probability of workers' compensation claims.

Anti fatigue Mats Provides Solutions Right Under Your Feet
They address issues of cleanliness, comfort and safety

What do floor and carpet cleaning schedules; employee safety, health and productivity; and visitor safety have in common? All of these issues can be addressed by making optimal use of today’s safety floor mat options. Whether they are located at facility entrances, in work areas and high foot-traffic locations, or in environments that require maximum cleanliness, anti fatigue mats and safety mats can offer customized features to meet the needs of a variety of work environments.

Whether liquid enters a work area in the form of rain, or as a result of spills or processes, it presents a slip hazard. According to Wausau Insurance Company, the average cost of a slip-and-fall accident exceeds $12,000. In addition, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, slips, trips and falls comprise the majority of general industry accidents.

Different types of anti fatigue mats:
For every part of a facility, today’s safety mats can address specific cleanliness and mat safety issues. For example, suction-backed mats are ideal for smooth surface floors in areas with less frequent moisture problems, such as production areas, office areas, or vending rooms. Substantial walking and wheeled-equipment traffic will not move or slide suction-backed mats.

Areas prone to major spills, splashes or liquid overflow may require flow-through drainage matting to control wetness. Drainage mats provide sure footing for workers in wet and greasy areas.

Our friendly customer support specialists can work with you find the right saftey matting to meet your needs, including types of safety floor mats that would be best for addressing wet areas in and around your facility.

Providing Protection
Entrance safety mats provide critical protection at entrance ways, helping to keep not only liquids, but dirt and dust from entering your facility. While any mat can trap some dirt, standard vinyl mats are not engineered for long-term durability. Mats subjected to substantial traffic require frequent cleaning, and also must be replaced often.

To enhance durability, textile service providers typically use antifatigue mats made of a high-grade rubber compound, engineered to be long-lasting and to resist curling and cracking under all climactic conditions. Deeper, thicker pile above the floor safety mat’s rubber base retains its thickness even with frequent industrial laundering. The pile traps larger quantities of soil, dust and water in the body of the mat, making the mat cleaner on its surface.

Entrance safety mats are used indoors and outdoors to limit the amount of moisture from outside entering your facility. These mats are used outside entranceways scrape snow and ice off shoes, while indoor entrance antifatigue mats soak up any residual wetness minimizing slip hazards.

Enhanced Mat Safety
Specialized mat features also can help enhance cleanliness and safety. Textiles offering resistance to oil, grease and chemicals, all of which may be on people’s shoes as they enter a building, can be used in entry mats. This reduces the risk of slippery surfaces and stained flooring resulting from chemical residues. Anti fatigue mats such as the Grit Top Comfort Deck provides comfort, plus wear and slip resistance in areas where water, grease and oil spills are common. The Grit Top surface on these safety mats makes these non-slip anti fatigue mats ideal for oily, greasy work environments.

Anti-microbial rubber compounds can inhibit growth of bacteria and molds on the surface of a mat, helping to eliminate microbes entering a facility long before employees reach preparation areas. These specialty mats are produced with an anti-microbial agent that prevents the growth of microorganisms on the surface, and are tested under extreme conditions for ability to withstand a wide range of bacteria and fungi. This property is particularly important in laboratories, as well as in the food processing, food service and healthcare industries. Our Grade A Food Mat is specifically designed for the food production industry to resist food oils and animal fats.

Clean walk mats or sticky mats feature a non-skid plastic base with a pad comprised of a multi-sheeted adhesive system that removes dirt and contaminants from shoe soles, wheels and other passing objects.

When workers must frequently walk through dirt, dust or mud before entering a facility, outdoor scraper mats can complement indoor entry mats by removing some dirt from their shoes.

Customized solutions
Safety floor mats designed to prevent fatigue among workers who stand for long periods are popular as a means of reducing accidents and enhancing employee morale and productivity. Anti fatigue mats with superior chemical, grease, petroleum and animal fat resistance and slip-resistant surfaces are available for industrial work areas, laboratories and food-service areas.

Anti fatigue mats and scraper mats for use in production and other work areas are available with OSHA border colors of black, safety green, caution yellow, warning orange and danger red, to remind employees when they are approaching or leaving hazardous locations.

In areas where equipment can be affected by static electricity, conductive safety mats and non-conductive switch board mats made a vinyl compound can be engineered to dissipate static electricity, allowing safe use near sensitive electronic equipment and protect workers from electric shock.

For every part of a plant facility, today’s anti fatigue mats can address specific mat safety and cleanliness issues.
