Spil Containment Berms

Spill Containment Berms come in many forms and sizes. Below you will find important factors to consider when selecting the best berm solution to fit your specific application. ChemicalChemical resistance ratings are based on physical examination of sample after removal from immersion in the test chemical at room temperature. Results represent the ability of the material to retain its performance properties when in contact with test chemical.

Based on data from Seaman Corporation regarding XR-5 and XR-3 berm materials, the XR-5 heavy duty compound uses a higher percentage of resin compared to the XR-3 providing greater chemical resistance. The XR-5 material has a 10 year chemical resistance warranty, compared to the XR-3 which for lighter duty applications and has a 3 year warranty for weathering and UV resistance.
Punture

Though both the XR-5 and XR-3 products are 30 mils thick material their physical properties are quite different. The XR-5's 6.5 oz polyester base fabric provides approximately double the tensile strength and punsture resistance of the 3 oz polyester base fabric of the XR-3.

Both provide sufficient containment for spill prone areas and applications. The XR-5 is recommended for heavy duty applications while the XR-3 provides a cost effective solution for light duty applications.

The degree of chemical attack on any material is governed by the conditions under which it is exposed. Exposure time, temperature, and size of the area of exposure usually varies considerably in application, therefore, this table is given and accepted at the user's risk. Confirmation of the validity and suitability in specific cases should be obtained. Contact a Dawg® Representative for recommendation on specific applications.

When considering XR-5 for specific applications, it is suggested that a sample be tested in actual service before specification. Where impractical, tests should be devised which simulate actual service conditions as closely as possible.
